Wikipedia has a good description of what a Mobile DJ does:

Mobile DJs travel or tour with their own sound systems and play from an extensive collection of pre-recorded music, on various media, for a targeted audience. Mobile DJs tend to work for hire at private functions such as wedding receptions, religious ceremonies, school dances; but they can occasionally be seen in bars, nightclubs, or even block parties. Unlike many club/rave DJs, mobile DJs often play more mainstream selections of music from multiple genres and they usually take requests.

That's great, but we can use music as the soundtrack for so much more. I've broken it down into 3 categories:

Music, Management, and Personality. This basically translates into dancing, continuity coordination and excitement at your event.

At weddings, the bride and groom have a picture in their mind of what their reception would feel like, usually with an accompanying soundtrack of favorite tunes with special memories and meaning. As Mobile DJs, we try to bring this soundtrack to life -- using the selections from the wedding couple, requests from the guests, and the demographics from the audience. The dance floor should be full for most of the evening, bringing a lively, emotional experience through the music we play.

Managing a wedding is where all the action is. I have walked into situations where we have 300+ guests, a nervous bride, a very boisterous bridal party, and hundreds of other details that go along with the big day. My style is packaging lots of things to do with short-term each activities (cutting the cake, bride and groom dance, cultural and family traditions, etc.) This gives us a good focus on these 15-minute segments, do it right, and keep the pace moving. The bride can be overwhelmed if she were to think of the whole evening. We can take care of the immediate event through great coordination and keep the bride relaxed. That way the bride and groom can visit with guests, instead of worrying about scripting a whole program.

At the end of the evening, my two favorite comments are that the event went smoothly and that the music wasn't too loud.

The way I look at it, it's a privilege for me to be at your wedding. The bride and groom have included me with their closest family and friends. Therefore, I want to treat everyone in this reception warmly and respectfully. I try to reflect this attitude through a great personality, which translates to a lot of excitement throughout the event.

That's what I bring to the event. In addition to lots of the great music that you love, I bring a sense of purpose and commitment to assure that special day hits all the right notes.
